Christmastime in California

Christmastime in California Santa Monica Beach

Austin and I were able to travel to spend Christmastime in California and visit my home and family.

His parents generously gifted us with a stay at the historic Culver Hotel and it was amazing to get to stay there and experience such an iconic part of Culver City history. The hotel was established in 1924 and has since become a local landmark. After spending my entire life just walking past, it was absolutely wonderful to stop and stay.

And besides, how can you not fall in love with a place that shows Casablanca during breakfast?

The hotel has such a rich and fascinating history, including being the lodging of choice of many actors who were working at the local Sony Studios. For those of you who are interested in reading more.

While celebrating Christmas was the highlight of the trip, we had the better part of a week to spend with family and friends (as was seeing Star Wars the Force Awakens for the second time, obviously.)

We also frequented the beach, got coffee at my favorite coffeehouse, ate the freshest seafood we could find, and enjoyed my family’s Christmas Eve tradition of treasure-hunted for CDs at Amoeba Music and having tea at the Chado Tea Room afterwards.

Some of my favorite local spots from our Christmastime in California…

Amoeba Music, Hollywood

Back on the Beach, Santa Monica

Cafe Vida, Culver City

Chado Tea Room, Hollywood

The Conservatory for Coffee, Tea, & Cocoa, Culver City

The Lobster, Santa Monica

The Reel Inn, Malibu

The best food in the world is in California, bar none.

This list is far from being an all-inclusive; it’s just a couple local spots you should visit if you’re in the area.

If you’ve been to Southern California, what are some of your favorite places?

  • I’ve never been to California, but these photos are so beautiful, they’re making me wish I could pack up and visit! One of my bucket list items is to visit Hollywood!

    • Hollywood is fun – but it’s not my favorite area. Try not to go in the summer when it’s crazy crowded. 😉

  • I’m more of a Laguna Beach kind of gal but Santa Monica is so amazing. I love all of the cute little shops.

    • Both cities are fantastic. But yes, Santa Monica has the best little shops – especially along Abbot Kinney.
