During my stay in California, I was able to venture out and spend an afternoon exploring Alameda – a city located on an island south of Oakland and in San Francisco Bay Area. It rained on and off all day, but it was still a marvelous time out-and-about.
The interesting buildings was one of the first things I noticed. Each building has a special character to it and it makes the entire street interesting and look like it has stories to tell.
We walked the streets and ducked into shops when it rained. If you have kids or just love interesting places and vintage toys, check out the Toy Safari. Never before have I seen a place quite like it. They sell old and new toys, displayed together and it’s the kind of store where you are caught up in the wonder of not knowing what amazing sorts of treasures you might find.
Bonus: It’s weirdly nostalgic to find toys that I used to own during my childhood in cases and for a sale with the vintage toys. Who would have guessed that my Pixar toys would have been worth money one day?
We were ready for a treat by the time we were finished going through the goods at an antique shop down the street. That’s when we came across Teazzert – a lovely shop selling coffee, tea, and a variety of desserts (namely macaron ice cream sandwiches and and shaved snow with fruit juice)
Our picks: Strawberry Macron Ice Cream Sandwich, Coffee Macron Ice Cream Sandwich, Coconut Shaved Snow, and Honeydew Shaved Snow. There was plenty for sharing and my favorite, by far, was the coconut shaved snow. Wow.
Our time exploring Alameda was incredible and I loved getting to see such a cute street in this fun town. Maybe I’ll get a chance to go back again – in sunnier weather next time.
