California road trips are the best. My family frequently travels from their home in southern California up the coast to spend time up north. Since Austin is currently training for his new job, I decided to take the opportunity to visit my family in California. While I was there, I was able to join them for one of those trips north to the San Francisco area.
During our drive, we made a stop in Morro Bay, a waterfront city just north of San Luis Obispo. It’s such a cute town and very unique and kitschy, and it was a gorgeous day to walk along the shore.
After a lunch of fresh seafood and a walk outside, we made it to the Shell Shop, an unassuming storefront with marvelous oceanic treasures inside.
Since 1955 the Thomas family has owned and operated The Shell Shop in Morro Bay, California. This store specializes in marine sea shells and exhibits the largest selection of specimens on the Central Coast. The Shell Shop | About
The staff was helpful and friendly and the store is utterly amazing with countless varieties of shells for sale. I could have spent hours admiring the stock and, if I wasn’t currently living as a nomad and if I had a home to decorate, I would have loved to bring a few pieces back in my suitcase.
On cold seaside days, cozy wool fisherman sweaters are always a good idea.

They had so many stunning sea urchins.
As we left the Shell Shop and said goodbye to Morro Bay, we were in our car on the road again and on our way once again. It was a perfect day and such a fun detour. I love roadside discoveries!
