It’s true that you can tell a lot about a woman from the contents of her purse. Maybe that’s why I love What’s In My Bag posts so much. I love how they offer a glimpse into the lives of the women I am curious to learn more about.
My bag is the Mamuye Tote from FashionABLE
(as seen in my winter capsule wardrobe)
There are so many things that I love about this bag. First and foremost, it was ethically crafted in Ethiopia by women who have overcome and are now earning a living wage after escaping from sexual slavery.
FashionABLE is not a charitable model of business. We believe that generational poverty is interrupted when people can provide for themselves. We believe that social businesses whose aim is to alleviate poverty should use their business skills to create job opportunities for the poor, not give them more charity. What we seek to “give” to those living in poverty is opportunity by purchasing goods from them, and helping those businesses grow and employ more. From FashionABLE Commitment
In addition, I love the classic black color and style of the tote. It’s beautifully made and it’s strong and sturdy. I’ve loaded it up for travel or to go to work and never once has it felt like the handles were pulling or tearing. The Mamuye Tote is hand-crafted in Ethiopia from 100% genuine distressed leather and measures 14’’ H x 16’’ W x 6’’ D.
If you are looking for a classic, ethically-made bag that helps empower women, then look no further. The Mamuye Tote is the bag for you.
They also sell numerous other leather goods and gorgeous jewelry and scarves that can be found here at
Let’s go ahead and moving on to the contents of my tote…
I always carry my wallet and keys with me (and yes, my key ring really is of Loki’s helmet)
All of my odds and ends fit in this pouch I got at Paper Source which makes it simple if I need to find something or decide to use my backpack instead. Just grab the pouch and go. Inside is where I keep random hair bands, chapstick, essential oils, cloths to clean my glasses, etc. It is the bag of miscellany.
Smith’s Rosebud Salve is the best. And I’m not exaggerating. During this dry Chicago winter I have been using it on my hands, cuticles, lips, and elbows and I cannot recommend it enough.
If you are anything like me, then you are constantly frustrated by the time spent untangling earbuds. Ever since I started using this little leather snap, however, it hasn’t been an issue. Bonus. It’s super quick and easy to put them away too. I got mine off of etsy years ago, but you can find a similar one here.
This pouch keeps all my pens, pencils, and other random nick-knacks organized.
I don’t use lip products often. (They just aren’t really my thing) However, when I do feel like adding a little extra something to my makeup look, these are what I use.
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Rebel
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Maverick
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Dream Big
(^the shade I wore on my wedding day^)
NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien
I have been carrying my Lifefactory Glass Bottle around with me for close to five years now and it still looks amazing. Not like the stainless steel ones that get dented and scratched and that squeak when you open them. I’ve dropped this one, completely full, on cement it never even shows. Mine is the 22 oz version because I’m always thirsty and I’d personally rather have too much water with me than not enough. Even though it can be heavy to carry around sometimes, I’ve never regretted having it and I love not using plastic water bottles. The bottles from Lifefactory are made in the USA and Europe and are BPA/BPS-free and are dishwasher safe.
Having a healthy snack on hand is a must. Especially if I find myself stuck at work later than I was expecting or I had to rush out in the morning without time to cook a hot breakfast. I don’t eat Kind Bars often (they are more like a healthy-ish dessert option) but I carry Larabars will me all the time. They have Whole30-approved flavors (which is excellent since I’m currently doing Whole30 for the second time.)
Sunglasses. Mine are the New Wayfarer by Ray-Ban and I love how classic they are. Now just to wait until summer so I can have more opportunities to wear them again.
Do you carry a Commonplace Book? Mine is just a classic pocket moleskine notebook and I use it to write down, notes, things I want to remember, lines from books or quotes that stood out to me, new thoughts, or just random word art. Carrying a Commonplace Book is becoming a lost art, and I hope that, one person at a time, we can revive it.
Hope you enjoyed this glimpse at what’s in my bag!
